Posting these cat-cartoons-without-the-cartoon was a long journey that I don’t know if I’ll repeat soon again. A daily blog is tough … even when you have your material handed to you! But, I couldn’t have done it without the artwork … Continue reading →

Father Time is riding out his last few minutes of being the temporal keeper for 2011; he sits in an easy chair with a calendar showing “Dec 31” behind him and a grandfather clock pointing to the time of 11:53. … Continue reading →

Well well well

Posted by joeabbott on November 25, 2013

Well.

I can think of few better ways to start a new post than to recognize the time since my last one:  September 19. Even back then, September was seeing a waning of posts with just three days of writing. That was two months ago and, while I’ve often taken off a week or two from posting before, this was something altogether different. So, what was the reason?

IMadeThis

A couple years ago I started working in the Xbox organization here at Microsoft and as we neared our launch date for the Xbox One, the demands of the job reached a crescendo. While I did manage to take three days off in early November for a birthday celebration (and I will post more on that later), nearly all other time on the calendar and clock was reserved for getting the Xbox One out the door.

While I’m happy with the end product (the Xbox One) and my contributions, I’m also taking a week off here to recharge the batteries, get my sleep cycle into a normal pattern, and to take an emotional break from work. In my 16+ years with Microsoft, this past year was the hardest year. I’ve always wanted to give more than I got from my employer, wanted Microsoft to say, “wow, we got a great deal with this employee” … well, the balance shifted a bit much this last year and I need a little break. In addition to taking this week off, I’ll likely take another 2-3 weeks off in December. We’ll see.

Sorry for the long absence, for dropping off without a note. I’m back now … so, let’s see, what shall I talk about next? How about racing go-karts?!?
