Posting these cat-cartoons-without-the-cartoon was a long journey that I don’t know if I’ll repeat soon again. A daily blog is tough … even when you have your material handed to you! But, I couldn’t have done it without the artwork … Continue reading →

Father Time is riding out his last few minutes of being the temporal keeper for 2011; he sits in an easy chair with a calendar showing “Dec 31” behind him and a grandfather clock pointing to the time of 11:53. … Continue reading →

Word of the Week Photo Challenge: Money

Posted by joeabbott on July 6, 2013

WP_20130706_001I had a different picture I wanted to use for this week’s PhotoChallenge but at the last minute changed.

Suzy and I have saved our coins for years now. Well, I save every coin that comes into my pocket, Suzy a few less … she has a cache of coins at work, in her car, some in her purse, etc. Me … just bills in my pocket, the coins go into “the pig”. The “pig” being our piggy bank of the moment; we’re on our third one (fourth?) now and we’ll just keep filling and then setting aside for that rainy day.

WP_20130706_002That was the picture I was going to take: all our piggy banks. But, at the last minute I remembered my “penny collection”. That is, my buckets of pennies!

As with our “silver” coins, I save all the copper ones, too, but I put those into a different “collection”. I don’t spend a single one and have been saving these since I came out to Seattle in 1989. While it’s a lot of pennies, the number that I saved year-to-year really slowed down when I got out of the habit of spending bills and going more and more to credit/debit cards.

I’m not sure how many pennies I have, either in pounds or in numbers, but I sure have a lot! Just pushing the pail out into the middle of the floor to take this picture took concerted effort! I’m sure I have a few older pennies, not sure about rare ones. Someday I’ll let some collector sift through to see if there’s anything they’d like to have; until then, I’ll save all the pennies I get.

Thanks for dropping in.

love the photo of that big tub of pennies! I also empty my change – into a little basket with a top here in the Cities and a little butter tub up at Uncle Joe’s. Quarterly, on the solstices and equinoxes, I cash them in and usually have around 20-25 dollars to tuck back into my wallet! I used to save them for “things”, but am simplifying so just keep them in circulation. It was fun to hear I’m not the only change saver! Momma
