Posting these cat-cartoons-without-the-cartoon was a long journey that I don’t know if I’ll repeat soon again. A daily blog is tough … even when you have your material handed to you! But, I couldn’t have done it without the artwork … Continue reading →

Father Time is riding out his last few minutes of being the temporal keeper for 2011; he sits in an easy chair with a calendar showing “Dec 31” behind him and a grandfather clock pointing to the time of 11:53. … Continue reading →

Word of the Week Photo Challenge: Summer

Posted by joeabbott on June 16, 2013

RattlesnakeLedgeWe put a lot of time and energy into our backyard, so my first inclination of “summer” was to take a picture that would pull it all in: the deck with a tree and small fountain, the plateau with fire pit rimmed with plants, the chickens and all that is their side of the yard, and flowers! The flowers, flowers and more flowers! I love coming home on the summer days, the evening is light for a while longer, the temps are warm and pleasant, the cats enjoy playing around outside and Suzy and I can chill in chairs on the deck taking in SUMMER.

Well, you try to capture that in a picture. It’s less a single image than it is a lifestyle or culmination in choices.

The other thought I had about summer was that it’s when I get out and hike. Stroll the seldom-trod paths to find a high place from which to look out at the world and enjoy a measure of solitude and peace. I took that picture.

And, while I managed to frame the photos to reflect that last line a bit, the trip up to Rattlesnake Ledge was anything but solitary or peaceful; there were people all over the place! A madhouse!

But, I did get out, I did enjoy the hike, and the views were spectacular. A very fine summer day.
