Posting these cat-cartoons-without-the-cartoon was a long journey that I don’t know if I’ll repeat soon again. A daily blog is tough … even when you have your material handed to you! But, I couldn’t have done it without the artwork … Continue reading →

Father Time is riding out his last few minutes of being the temporal keeper for 2011; he sits in an easy chair with a calendar showing “Dec 31” behind him and a grandfather clock pointing to the time of 11:53. … Continue reading →

Word of the week Photo Challenge: Flora

Posted by joeabbott on April 20, 2013

This week’s word was great: flora! If there’s one thing we have in abundance about the yard, it’s flora! Unfortunately, like the time they chose “night” and we were in the midst of a new moon, it isn’t the perfect time for this word.

While we have lots of flowers most of the time, a bunch of the current crop are just past their prime. Not bare and withered, but they peaked a week or two back. We still have the occasional standout tulip, a couple of planter of potted flowers that look resplendent, and many a tree with blooms, but the few places in our gardens with dozens of blooms are either past (tulips on Cat Hill, daffodils in the back planter by the chicken coop), or not yet come up (notably the dahlias).

But, we do have a climbing vine, a clematis, that’s doing its level best to pull down a trellis from the fence with the weight of its blossoms. Many of the blooms are just past full blush but, with the right angle and from a bit of a distance, you can’t tell.

The shot to the right is my attempt to give a little visual interest by including an ironwork gecko for a bit of juxtaposition.

Hope you enjoy the picture … the real thing is grand!
