Posting these cat-cartoons-without-the-cartoon was a long journey that I don’t know if I’ll repeat soon again. A daily blog is tough … even when you have your material handed to you! But, I couldn’t have done it without the artwork … Continue reading →

Father Time is riding out his last few minutes of being the temporal keeper for 2011; he sits in an easy chair with a calendar showing “Dec 31” behind him and a grandfather clock pointing to the time of 11:53. … Continue reading →

Trooper would not be amused

Trooper introduces himself

Trooper was our first cat and, more correctly, he had been Suzy’s cat when we met. I have no idea what breed he was, but he was a beautiful cat: the purest white, a glossy coat, and all of the confidence of an animal that knows he’s better than you. I loved him.

He was a great companion and whip-smart, solving simple puzzles like “where’d they hide the food” and “how do you get the door open”. Unfortunately, he had been handled a bit roughly as a kitten and some of those habits carried over: if he wasn’t interested in being pet and you continued to pet him, he’d swat you; if you were moving your hand under a blanket to get him to jump on the moving lump, he’d just attack your arm where it went under the covers! He was a smart cat.

But, if you were gentle, watched the signs, and treated him well, you’d have no problems. I can’t recall ever being bit or scratched by him but I remember more than one guest who was determined to win him over (“Cats love me, I know what I’m doing”) and suffered at his paw. Great cat, lots of ego.

And so, I’m a bit stunned to see Suzy’s recent hand at humor in which she’s essentially mocking one of our most beloved pets. But it’s a riot. While Trooper is no longer with us, I’m sure he wouldn’t approve … but that’s OK, I do.

Enjoy four seconds of fun.
