A Study in Bonsai

IMG_5583IMG_5602One of the places we took Fred and Laurel on their trip out here was the (get ready for this name): Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection at the Rhododendron Species Botanical Gardens in Federal Way, WA.

It may sound ostentatious but it’s extremely approachable: a small area defines bonsai and its different forms, an indoor area shows a few examples, and then a walking tour takes you past dozens of exhibits, all within touching reach (but, please, don’t touch!).

It was a nice way to get them off their plane and into the Seattle rhythm of enjoying nature on a cloudy day.
