A family visit

This past week my mother has come out to Seattle for a week-long visit and we’ve found a few fun distractions! Here’s a quick summary of the week so far;
Mom gets in around 11AM and we proceed to the house for some chit chat, a little noshing on cheese and crackers, and then a nap. We finished the day with a trip to Claim Jumper restaurant and more chatting long into the evening.
We headed out early to the Renton Uptown Glassworks hot shop where we blew some glass artwork for mom to take home with her! Mom blew a glass float and Suzy and I blew glass flowers.
Afterwards we headed home to relax before enjoying a superb meal at Copperleaf restaurant.
We had a photographer come to the house in the morning to take photos of us among the flowers and chickens. Later we went to the Seattle Asian Art Museum (yes, I climbed on the outdoor art) and then we retired home for a meal of hot dogs cooked up over our fire pit. A nice, simple day in the sun!
Friday was the day that almost didn’t happen! We awoke to thundershowers and heavy rains and we had all outdoor activities planned! But, as the morning progressed, the rain diminished and we headed out to the Weyerhaeuser Gardens. Afterwards we picked up some plants at Furney’s Nursery and then went to a grand performance of Twelfth Night at Angle Lake Park by the Wooden O Theater.
Long day! We arose at 5:15AM (early for those of us on vacation!) and headed to the piers to catch a bus out to Sequim for the Lavender Festival! It was a full day of lavender lavender lavender! We first enjoyed Jardin du Soleil, then the Lavender in the Park Festival (where we say rehabilitating raptors), and then to Purple Haze. It was a grand day!
We ended it with a little meal at California Pizza Kitchen and then home for a good night’s rest!
Today is just beginning! Knowing that we had a full day on the road yesterday, we planned nothing for the AM. Tonight we’ll go to Seattle Center to fight the crowds attending the Bite of Seattle, but our goal will be the Chihuly Glass Museum and Teatro Zinzani for a little evening dinner theater! I’ll post more about that fun after it happens!
