Posting these cat-cartoons-without-the-cartoon was a long journey that I don’t know if I’ll repeat soon again. A daily blog is tough … even when you have your material handed to you! But, I couldn’t have done it without the artwork … Continue reading →

Father Time is riding out his last few minutes of being the temporal keeper for 2011; he sits in an easy chair with a calendar showing “Dec 31” behind him and a grandfather clock pointing to the time of 11:53. … Continue reading →

A well-deserved vacation

Posted by joeabbott on July 14, 2012

We’ve been through a bit of a ringer here and very much looking forward to the coming week.

P1050347I’d earlier noted a few of the physical problems that dragged me down but hadn’t noted that Suzy had a bit of a challenge, too. While I was sniffling and suffering from my cold, she twisted an ankle (a recurring injury at that) on one of the many gopher “traps” that the little rodents have dug throughout the yard. So it was a week of invalid nursing invalid: I tried to stay clear of food prep and she had to avoid any lifting or carrying. In as much as we respectively could.

But, on top of that, we had busy work-weeks!

I’ll be taking all of next week off and a couple days into the subsequent week; it’ll be sublime. However, I don’t work in a place where my role can just be put on hold for seven business days, so I needed to front load a ton of work. Compounding the situation was that on Monday, after I got up from bed, I realized I was in no shape whatsoever to be at work. And so I collapsed back into bed and canceled/rescheduled meetings later in the day when I managed to be marginally useful.

But then Tuesday – Friday, I was putting in 12-16 hour days. It was so much that when I was home on Friday and my vacation had started, my head was still swimmy with to-do work and last-minute connections that needed to be made.

And Suzy had a similar week.

I was happy that we had reasonable meals most of the week, got a reasonable amount of sleep, and kept the house up, but it was at the sacrifice of all other entertainment or activity. It’s time for vacation and I intend on enjoying it!

On today’s agenda, I’ll be running some errands (feed store for the chickens, a bit of grocery shopping, picking up books from the library, etc.), enjoying a late afternoon gathering with the Stapelman clan at Steve and Julie’s home, and will probably end the day watching a bit of TV movies with Suzy … most likely, this version of Sherlock Holmes that I’d reserved through NetFlix.

My vacation is starting and I’m looking forward to it! What do you have planned this week?

I can’t deny that I’m certain you both would recuperate if you weren’t have (dread!) COMPANY COMING on Tuesday…… and I can only repeat: I am perfectly happy with the idea of just hanging out with you and Suzy all week, and just enjoying visiting, watching chickens and kitties, and just being two of my very favorite people…. so let’s agree to cancel anything that sounds like an EFFORT, ok? Can’t wait to see you both! Momma/Fran
