Posting these cat-cartoons-without-the-cartoon was a long journey that I don’t know if I’ll repeat soon again. A daily blog is tough … even when you have your material handed to you! But, I couldn’t have done it without the artwork … Continue reading →

Father Time is riding out his last few minutes of being the temporal keeper for 2011; he sits in an easy chair with a calendar showing “Dec 31” behind him and a grandfather clock pointing to the time of 11:53. … Continue reading →

A happy young lady shares a table at a tony restaurant with her cat; they both wear festive, cone-shaped party hats. The woman gaily says to the tuxedoed server, “One martini and one glass of milk.” The cat does not … Continue reading →

Pocket Cat

Posted by joeabbott on May 19, 2012

imageI’d be lying if I didn’t admit to wanting to replace Spencer … the cat we lost to pancreatic cancer a few months back. Ideally, with another Spencer. Quite literally, I’d have loved to have another cat like him: big, easy going, happy as a cat could be, and a constant companion. But, I know that’s not realistic. Additionally, we “only” had Spencer 10 years and that wasn’t nearly enough. So, we wanted a new cat … a companion for both us and Trimble … but wanted to be sure we could enjoy all his days.

And so we got a kitten.

The story of how much work it took to get our new cat into the house would fill a long entry; suffice it to say that, even though we’d been in “negotiations” for him for weeks, it wasn’t until Suzy got a call saying, “come get him” that we completely believed he’d be ours. And even though I was out taking a little hike when she got the call, she still ran for him rather than miss our chance. And so far we feel pretty fortunate to have him.

We’re remembering what’s it’s like to have a kitten in the house: lots of “play with me now”, a bit more nipping than we’d like, and absolutely zero sense of propriety or personal space … and I know that first hand as he decided to clean himself while leaning against my chin as I tried to take a nap! But, it’s a lot of fun, too.

While I think of him as “pocket cat” … he’s very tiny … his name is Trasper and here are a few pictures of the little chap.

Been a while since I checked in. Congrats on the new addition. I hope he is doing well and that you are both (all) adjusting to a kitten. I knew you would find someone or vise versa. We now have a rabbit. Still looking for a home for him but don’t want to see him outside in a hutch–that seems to be the hitch. He’s litterbox trained! Any takers?! I just don’t think a bunny and cashel will be a good mix otherwise I’d keep him!

  3. […] Anyhow, we’re putting in a bit of time playing that when we need a break from playing with the new kitten, Trasper. […]
