Day Two

Posted by joeabbott on March 23, 2011

Let’s take a look at the progress since yesterday:

P1020310

For those not sure what to look for, the retaining wall now continues to the right and meets up with the upper, pre-existing wall that surrounded the raised planters.

The work went surprisingly fast … I started by extending the upper wall to ensure the timber that formed the upper base would be level. I didn’t pin this beam down and instead went to the lower section, extended the wall I made yesterday and then put in a roughly 45 degree connection wall. Surprisingly (and luckily), the two connected without shims or other “heroics”! Just 11 timbers … which, at ~3.5” per timber, is just under 40”.

Not bad work for a guy who sits at a desk all day long!
