Posting these cat-cartoons-without-the-cartoon was a long journey that I don’t know if I’ll repeat soon again. A daily blog is tough … even when you have your material handed to you! But, I couldn’t have done it without the artwork … Continue reading →

Father Time is riding out his last few minutes of being the temporal keeper for 2011; he sits in an easy chair with a calendar showing “Dec 31” behind him and a grandfather clock pointing to the time of 11:53. … Continue reading →

A happy young lady shares a table at a tony restaurant with her cat; they both wear festive, cone-shaped party hats. The woman gaily says to the tuxedoed server, “One martini and one glass of milk.” The cat does not … Continue reading →

Stapelmans in the House!

Posted by joeabbott on June 26, 2009

Marrying Suzy (some 14 years ago or so) meant marrying into the Stapelman family. Which is a good thing. This past weekend we had a Stapelman family gathering at our home to celebrate some warm weather, good company, and a few birthdays. Suzy, sister-in-law Julie, and sister-in-law Melanie all have birthdays around this time so we enjoyed some eats and a (somewhat lame) chorus of Happy Birthday to you. While most were able to make it, Mike (Suzy’s oldest brother) and Olivia were busy debarking from an Alaska cruise and had their hands full; as did Heather (Mike’s daughter) who, with John, was in the final weeks’ preparation for their wedding!

We decided this would be a “western theme” gathering, and sent out appropriate invites. While some caught on and dressed the part, a few were caught flat-footed, protesting, “how were we supposed to know”. Well, there were no hard feelings but plenty of ribs, chicken, and brisket. I’m a bad photographer but was relegated to that task. Here are a few snaps from the fun day … more out on my Flickr site.

And, around the house we had a few posters hung of all the Stapelman families. Here they are:

Mike and Olivia, aka The Thumb Suckers
Rebecca the Kid and her handlers are wanted for excessive cuteness and parental doting. Last seen heading to the Yukon Territory

(the reward of $1 reflects our disappointment at their absence … we missed you, guys!)

Tim and Mel, aka The Pang Gang
For horse thieving. Last seen heading to the Eastside riding away on the steed, Goldwing

Steve and Julie, aka Mr, D & Crew
For jumping a claim & grand larceny. Do not attempt to capture! Mr. D should be considered armed and dangerous with an Xbox controller. Last seen heading to the Eastside with his crew

Denise and Jim, aka The Scott-Free Bunch
For cheating at cards, shooting mouth off and other bad-assery. Last seen in the South Seas, heading northbound

Jim and Kristine, aka Sam the Gun & Bunch
For disorderly conduct. Sam The Gun’s band of highwaymen (including Dancing Girl Sydney) busted up a saloon and shot the piano player. Last seen heading north

Grandma and Grandpa, aka Gramps
For rustling cows and driving them to Branson. Last seen in the company of saloon girl, High Steppin’ Edy

The entire Stapelman (and extended family) clans
