Posting these cat-cartoons-without-the-cartoon was a long journey that I don’t know if I’ll repeat soon again. A daily blog is tough … even when you have your material handed to you! But, I couldn’t have done it without the artwork … Continue reading →

Not just the weather

Posted by joeabbott on March 15, 2009

OK, to show I do more than obsess about the Seattle weather, I figure I can call the modeling of the vise a wrap and get on with things. Here’s a picture of the actual vise that I need to mount to my workbench:

And here’s a picture of the model I created

Some of the things I’d improve if I had time, skill, or a liberal combination of the two is to add filets to the edges of the parts … as you can see from the picture there’s not a hard edge on the thing. I’d also clean up the clevis piece that holds the handle … you can see that I don’t intersect the two cylinders very well and the neck is a bit longer in the model than in real life. Not a big deal, though.

Now I need to model the legs of the bench so I can work on the placement of the vise. Unfortunately, it’s been long enough ago that I don’t quite remember all the details as well as I’d like. Time to start pulling it apart!
