Posting these cat-cartoons-without-the-cartoon was a long journey that I don’t know if I’ll repeat soon again. A daily blog is tough … even when you have your material handed to you! But, I couldn’t have done it without the artwork … Continue reading →

Father Time is riding out his last few minutes of being the temporal keeper for 2011; he sits in an easy chair with a calendar showing “Dec 31” behind him and a grandfather clock pointing to the time of 11:53. … Continue reading →

A happy young lady shares a table at a tony restaurant with her cat; they both wear festive, cone-shaped party hats. The woman gaily says to the tuxedoed server, “One martini and one glass of milk.” The cat does not … Continue reading →

A year old and still fun to think about

Posted by joeabbott on March 4, 2009

A year ago Suzanne and I had a chance to go to Australia and then on to New Zealand. We’d saved a long time for that trip and it was worth every penny. Just a gorgeous time.

One of the best parts was meeting all our traveling companions. Here’s a picture that makes me smile every time I see it. Bob, and his wife Carol (not inthe picture … that’s a wallaby!), were just two of the many wonderful people we met. For the most part our relationships with our tour companions were superficial but that’s just fine. We enjoyed the time together that we had.

Sometime when I have less to say about things that are happening and more time to gather up what’s come in the past, I’ll detail the trip. The coarse description is to say that we started in Australia and toured Carnes, Uluru, Alice Springs, Darwin\Kakadu, Melbourne, Hobart (Tasmania), Sydney, and then were off to spend a couple weeks in New Zealand.

It was a wonderful time and even the many airline flights were made better for our traveling companions. I remember stretching my legs on that long flight back across the Pacific and spending a little time with Bob and Carol as they looked calm and relaxed. And then I remember them cheering Suzanne and I on, shoring up our collapsing spirits as it appeared we’d miss the last flight home to Seattle and be stuck in LA for the night.

We didn’t miss the flight and weren’t stuck in LA. But I do think back on their shouts of encouragement.

That was a year ago and it’s still fun to think about.
